“Sham Shui Po Still Sham Shui Po” through photography was co-created in 2021 with artist, community researcher and PhD candidate Marty Miller. It has already benefited over 80 students from both local and international backgrounds. 

Through community tours, and in-school workshops and exhibitions,students were guided to explore the connections between a photographer and his/her subjects (or objects); to realise the power of narratives with perspectives; and to convey different feelings as photographers.  More importantly, they were guided to seek universal values in different neighborhoods, and to reflect on and appreciate the positive values that we all share with our communities.

Students were encouraged to use their verbal and visual languages to analyse the images, to create their own stories based on their own feelings, to recognise other perspectives that they couldn’t imagine by themselves, and to curate a story with insider and outsider narratives and seek common themes and working collaboratively to reconcile different opinions.
